Our concerns are genuine. We invite anyone to obtain a written guarantee from our Council or State government that no future Special Industry/ Hazardous Industry (such as the Phoenix Biomass Plant) will ever be permitted on the Western side of the M1 and that no High Impact or Medium impact industries will ever be allowed in areas designated for low impact industry.
If this seems unreal, please be aware that a Special Industry – the Phoenix Biomass Incinerator (in black on the left) – has just been approved in a Medium Industry zone, directly across the road from residences, by Court Order, with Council unable to prevent it, because of what is permitted under this Plan!
We consider that only Low or no Impact Industry (7:00 am to 6:00 pm) is suitable so close to our homes.

We could get some 300 or more industries, all with polluting chimneys, wedged in between our neighbour- hoods! These industries would be permitted to have the potential for impacts on our communities ranging from "significant to negligible" due to “offsite emissions including aerosol, fume, particle, smoke, odour and noise”, and operate 24/7. Under the City Planning Scheme the Council appears to be happy for you to breathe in all these emissions.

Councillor Donna Gates's reaction to our map below

Despite YRA consistently advising Council and state government for many years that the buffer distances between noxious industry and residents in Yatala/Ormeau were woefully inadequate, our local and state members seem to be exerting only limited pressure on Council and the LNP government to listen to community concerns.
