The protection of industry separation distances is about to be removed from the State Planning Bill.

In a nutshell, industry separation distances determine just how close dangerous and hazardous industries are allowed to residential homes. With this change there will be NO rules about how close any type of industry can set up next to your residence.

This very critical protection which was put in place by our State Government in 2010 but is now about to be removed in the new Draft Planning Bill 2015 which is currently available to the public for consultation before it is submitted to Parliament.

This will negatively affect the rights of every resident of Queensland, and particularly the area of Yatala and Ormeau which will have one of the largest industrial precincts in Queensland (if not Australia).

YRA implores our state government (and councils) to honour the boundaries and definitions originally outlined in their planning policy and industry zone plans and refrain from continuously allowing those  boundaries to be changed in order to advantage industry (and disadvantage residents).

The Gold Coast City Council did warn our community that the state government was intent on deleting separation distances as far back as June 2014.
